Peter “Pete” Joseph Murphy, Jr., age 80, of Abingdon, Maryland passed away on January 18, 2017 at his home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of Peter and Margaret (Kelly) Murphy. He went to Holy Child Grammar School and Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA, moved to Joppatowne in 1966 with a job transfer, and has been a Harford County resident ever since. He was past President of the Joppatowne Lions Club and enjoyed horse racing, watching old movies, playing cards and going to The Peppermill, which was his favorite restaurant. He was in the grocery industry since 1962 and owned his own business in military food brokerage for many years. He was very active in the community and was an avid Ravens Fan and season ticket holder for many years. He loved his cat, Benji.
Peter is survived by his loving spouse of 59 years, Madeleine F. Murphy, three sons, Peter J. (Donna) Murphy, III of Bel Air, Thomas G. (Dee) Murphy of Bel Air, Daniel P. (Sandy) Murphy of Bel Air; daughter, Madeleine F. Hyde of Bel Air and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, John “Jay” L. Murphy.
